This year’s ITEXPO (News - Alert) West conference will be held in Las Vegas, Nevada, the gambling capital of the United States. But, though Nevada and other states allow gambling in casinos and other establishments, many US states have been reluctant to legalize online gambling in the past. But that seems about to change, as several states are considering moving forward with bills to legalize online gambling. If and when this occurs, it will have quite an impact on a number of industries, including the VoIP service provider space.
While Governor Chris Christie recently vetoed a bill that would legalize online gambling in the state of New Jersey, his comments after the veto indicated that he was open to the idea, if a future bill contained some alterations. Christie is looking for a bill that would include a 10-year trial period and a higher tax rate on casinos. Proponents of legalized online gaming in the state that includes the gambling hotspot Atlantic City feel that iGaming would create jobs and drive economic development by tapping into a new generation of gamer that is used to playing all sorts of games on tablets and laptops.
In Nevada, however, plans are afoot to expand that state’s online gambling to the entire nation. Currently, Nevada law only allows online poker sites in Nevada to accept wagers from players within the state, but a new bill would allow players from other states to place bets. The existing law, which went into effect in 2011, requires federal regulatory action to accept wagers across state lines, though the proposed bill would do away with this stipulation.
Expansion of online gambling throughout the nation would certainly have an impact on many industries, including the VoIP service provider space. One VoIP service provider that is already heavily involved in providing services for the online gaming space is AVOXI, which recently took part in the ICE Totally Gaming 2013 event in London, England. AVOXI provides customized call center solutions focused on the international needs of call centers, providing toll free numbers and helping companies save money, improve performance and optimize customer service.
