As the demand for Voice-over-IP (VoIP) steadily increases, the public switched telephone network (PSTN) is becoming a thing of the past, and as predicted by the industry, will eventually become extinct. In an effort to replace it, VoIP providers have been adding more layers and innovative solutions to their infrastructures in hopes of persuading non-believers to make the VoIP switch.
To reward Metaswitch Networks, a provider of IP communication services, for its effort in the VoIP movement, the Internet Telephony (News - Alert) Service Providers’ Association (ITSPA) has presented it with its 2013 Best VoIP Infrastructure award for its Perimeta Session Border Controller.
The Perimeta 3.3 is Metaswitch’s latest edition to its session border controllers (SBC), as it addresses the needs of wireless and wireline operators such as VoIP providers that are being faced with growing SIP complexity, security and capacity issues.
When Metaswitch was presented with the award, ITSPA remarked on the "forward-thinking" nature of Perimeta, stating how using new technologies, it was "judged ready to support today and tomorrow's IP networks."
Perimeta networks is touted for its ability to monitor highly growing data volumes and multimedia capabilities. As new software and programs are constantly being added, ultimately creating more layers to networks, there are also unfortunately more opportunities for businesses to be hacked or subject to virus attacks. However, Perimeta’s new class of SBC protects networks from such threats while also scaling the signaling and multimedia functions so that it can run smoothly.
It has two different platforms, including a Signaling Session Controller (SSC) and Media Session Controller (MSC (News - Alert)), which work simultaneously to protect and monitor network operations.
According to Steve Gleave, senior vice president of marketing at Metaswitch, "Perimeta continues to turn a lot of heads because its capabilities disrupt the SBC market and deliver maximum flexibility at a time when service providers need it most."
Metaswitch can add this award to its list of achievements as it works to further strengthen its position on the market has a provider of SBC solutions. With hundreds of network operators utilizing Perimeta to deliver the most inexpensive and scalable communications, it is obvious why ITSPA chose to recognize the company’s services this year.
